Integrated Waste Solutions Group Opens 130 Environmental Park; NOVA in for the Long Haul

AUSTIN, TEXAS (June 15, 2021) – On May 14th, NOVA Infrastructure (NOVA) attended the Grand Opening of 130 Environmental Park (130EP), an environmentally-friendly municipal solid waste (MSW) landfill in the Austin metropolitan area owned by Integrated Waste Solutions Group (IWSG).  130EP is the holder of a MSW Permit for a Type I MSW Landfill Facility issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. NOVA, alongside OPTrust, Green Group Holdings, and the IWSG founders, has provided the capital support required to construct and commence operations at 130EP, which is the first of many projects that IWSG envisions.

The investment into 130EP serves as the second capital infusion into IWSG executed by NOVA and its co-investors.  In April 2020, NOVA provided the funding for the acquisition of Central Texas Refuse (CTR), a full-service Austin based waste collection and recycling company. These investments serve as the cornerstone of the vertically integrated strategy that NOVA and IWSG intend to execute within the Central Texas market and target regions throughout North America.

NOVA’s commitment in IWSG represents a long-term partnership to scale the company alongside the IWSG management team since it was founded in 2017.  NOVA is a middle market infrastructure investment firm that invests across different sectors, including environmental services. “We are excited about our investment into IWSG and its robust management team, including industry veteran IWSG CEO Michael Lavengco,” said NOVA’s Managing Partner Chris Beall. “As a long-term infrastructure investor, we expect to be a part of the Central Texas marketplace for many years and are excited about the prospects to grow the business organically by providing outstanding service to customers, through acquisitions and joint ventures and ultimately to expand into other regions in Texas.  The combination of NOVA, OPTrust and Green Group along with our tremendous group of investors will position us well for long-term success in the market.”  “It is our belief that the waste industry is defensive and resilient, which was proven to be true during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a sector that we are positive on and we are actively seeking new ways to grow and expand our waste platform.”

Industry veteran, NOVA Senior Advisor and IWSG Chairman of the Board Charlie Appleby was also in attendance at the 130EP Grand Opening and remains actively engaged with the management team on a day-to-day basis to support the implementation of the company’s growth strategy. “I see a tremendous opportunity in the Central Texas market that we intend to capitalize on. Our overarching strategy for long term success is to establish a highly incentivized best-in-class management team to implement our vertical integration strategy. With partners like NOVA, OPTrust, and Green Group that goal is closer to becoming a reality every day.”
